Santander: la ciudad del anillo

La oferta cultural de Santander guarda un rico patrimonio en el denominado Anillo Cultural, un céntrico itinerario que ofrece en un cómodo recorrido toda una serie de espacios para visitar y conocer un poco más a fondo la ciudad en la que nos encontramos.

Entre estos espacios se encuentran la Torre de la Catedral, el Centro Arqueológico de la Muralla Medieval y el de Interpretación de los antiguos Muelles, el Museo de Prehistoria y Arqueología de Cantabria y hasta el refugio antiaéreo descubierto en el año 2006.  En este mismo anillo se encuentra el recientemente reabierto Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Santander y Cantabria (MAS), la Ruta del Incendio que arrasó el centro histórico en 1941 así como el Centro Botín, que sin duda se ha convertido en el símbolo de la ciudad y en un referente cultural en España. Los jardines de Pereda anexos son una buena excusa para tomar un respiro antes de acercarnos hasta otro de los emblemas de Santander de visita obligada. Estamos hablando del Palacio de la Magdalena, ubicado en la península del mismo nombre y que fue residencia oficial de los reyes Alfonso XIII y Victoria Eugenia.

Desde este punto es posible acercarse hasta las playas del Sardinero y a los numerosos parques y zonas verdes de la ciudad en los que disfrutar de un merecido descanso o hacer deporte, como los de Mataleñas y Las Llamas, así como el entorno de Cabo Mayor. En este entorno se ubica el campo municipal Golf Mataleñas, instalación que cuenta con un campo de juego de 9 hoyos y un campo de prácticas tanto para juego largo como para juego corto.

A la hora de reponer fuerzas, Santander ofrece una amplia y variada oferta gastronómica.

La oferta gastronómica incluye los mejores productos de la mar y tierra

En los mercados de la Esperanza, Plaza de México y de Puertochico, es posible encontrar algunos de los mejores productos de la mar y la tierra, pero si no se quiere esperar, también es posible degustarlos in situ, en los numerosos establecimientos hosteleros de la ciudad, eso sí, sin olvidar el picoteo o la degustación de pinchos si no tenemos mucho tiempo. Y ya que estamos en la calle, seguramente nos hará falta hacer alguna compra o llevar algún recuerdo. Las calles comerciales de Santander son así un espacio abierto en el que conviven las grandes firmas con establecimientos de toda la vida.

Santander: the City of the Ring

The cultural offer of Santander keeps a rich legacy in the so-called Cultural Ring, an itinerary in the city center that offers a whole series of spaces to visit and learn a little more about the city in which we are, all in a comfortable tour.

These spaces are the Tower of the Cathedral, the Archaeological Center of the Medieval Wall and the Interpretation Center of the old Docks, the Museum of Prehistory and Archeology of Cantabria and even an anti-aircraft shelter discovered in 2006. In this same ring is the recently reopened Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Santander and Cantabria, the Route of the Fire that devastated the historical center in 1941 and, the Centro Botín, which undoubtedly has become the symbol of the city and a cultural reference in Spain. Also, the Jardines de Pereda are a good excuse to take a break before approaching another of the must-see emblems of Santander. We are talking about the Royal Palace of La Magdalena, located on the peninsula of the Magdalena and which was the official residence of the monarchs Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenia.

From this site it is possible to approach the Sardinero beaches and the numerous parks and green areas of the city, where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest or practice some sports, such as those of Mataleñas and Las Llamas, as well as the surroundings of Cabo Mayor. In this area is located the course Golf Mataleñas, a facility that has a 9 hole playing field and a driving range for both long and short game. In order to recover some energy, Santander is supplied with a wide and varied gastronomic offer.

In the markets of Esperanza, Plaza de México and Puertochico, it is possible to find some of the best land and sea products, but if you do not want to wait, you can also taste them in some of the many gastronomic establishments of the city. We may not forget to taste some pinchos if we do not have much time, and since we are walking along the street, surely we will need to make some purchases and buy some souvenirs. The commercial streets of Santander are thus an open space in which large companies coexist with lifetime establishments.
